The Hayling Islander first appeared in June 1973. The original eight-page A5 newspaper, printed in a garage in Fishery Lane, grew to become a busy 32-page tabloid, eagerly awaited every month by its loyal readers all over the Island.
The Islander was taken over by the News Group, Portsmouth, in 1989 and has grown steadily ever since, reaching 48 pages at the end of 2000. Its founder, Robert Godfrey, would have been proud to know it was continuing to thrive in the 21st Century.
The paper now has its own website at www.haylingtoday.co.uk.
